Hey, Paisanos! Its the Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

This show features the Super Mario Brothers in Animated form with Lou Albano and Danny Wells supplying the voices for the brothers and likewise playing the brothers in real live action form as well with special guest stars! Each show starts out with the live action Mario's and goes to cartoon, after the cartoon the live action part wraps up! All 24 sequences include their live action counterparts! This 4 disc set features these 24 sequences plus a new consultation with Lou Albano(Mario)!

I want it badly... but I'm wary

Back in 1989-1990, there were five afternoon shows I watched all the time when I was a kid: Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers and Ducktales on Fox, while on KUSI-51 I watched the Jetsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the Super Mario Bros Super Show. Now, four of them have in the end been added to my DVD collection, and I am partially awaiting the arrival of TSMBSS to include the fourth.

The show is one of my favorites. While half of it features respective little live action skits featuring the Mario Bros. and respective guests, from Sgt. Slaughter to Magic Johnson and even Inspector Gadget(played by Maurice LaMarche in live action... far better than the performance Matthew Broderick gave), with a good deal of funny plots such as Mario switching bodies with Frankenstein's monster or Luigi getting trapped in a magician's hat. The other half is animated, in which Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach... sorry, Toadstool, and Toad try to undertake and rid the world of King Koopa.

The toons themselves were a bit of a merger of the firstborn two Mario games. Koopa, for example, had Bowser's design and ego, but likewise had Wart's crown and color, plus Mouser(from the 2nd game) was his main henchman. The plots once in a while dealt with facing Koopa in the Mushroom Kingdom, but normally they took the plumbers and placed them in respective situations: For example, movie parodies such as Indiana Jones, James Bond, or Godzilla, or homages such the group visiting Camelot... I mean, Cram-a-lot, or even prehistoric times. All the while Koopa would proceed to menace the group under respective disguises and alter-egos, similar to say, Boris Badanov from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Interestingly enough, some of Mario and Luigi's traits from the games, such as Mario's big appetite and Luigi being a finish and total coward, in truth originated in this show.

However, I am worried on how the releases will turn out. Although it seems DIC, I'm worried if they will genuinely be the sequences I watched on TV all the time. One of the highlights of the series was that at a heap of point in an episode they would play respective songs, such as "Weird Science," "Thriller," or "Danger Zone". However, in reairings of the episodes(retitled, Super Mario All-Stars, which aired with the two sequels, Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World), as well as on their single-disc releases of TSMBSS, DIC totally edited these songs out. There's been no mention on whether the songs will be included for the 4-disc set, but I hope they are, because I want the sequences as they ORIGINALLY aired, not edited up. I contacted them and asked if they would be including the songs, but have yet to receive a reply. Here's hoping that the series will be restored on DVD the way it must be.

Great Effort Put Into DVD Release

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! is unquestionably a well remembered cult classic.The half-hour series was a combining of the live action characters of Mario and Luigi (and friends) and the cartoon characters. The cartoon featured a good deal of of the characters from the three Super Mario games freed in the mid 80's. In the cartoon, Mario, Luigi, Toad and The Princess are many times fighting the evil forces of King Koopa. Between 1985 and 1989 Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, and Super Mario Bros 3 were amid the most usual NES games on the market.

The DVD box set includes 24 sequences from the shows 1989 season. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was a fun afternoon cartoon to watch in the late 80's and it is nice to see such an improbable release available on DVD. The sequences look finelooking good, altho a great deal of appear to have that grainy television look verses a real sharp DVD look at times. The packaging is amazing and colorful. It's outstanding to have this show on DVD. Special guests include Cyndi Lauper, Nicole Eggert, and Magic Johnson. It's clear Shout! Factory put a lot of effort into this release.

5 stars for effort, 4 stars for picture quality.

Fiction to Be Savored in the Cool of an Evening

Quite frankly, I was drawn to Carvalho's splendid novel by a combining of three factors: (1) The title was fascinating; (2) I am a sucker for fiction set in Roman times; and (3) the translator was Gregory Rabassa.

Picture to yourself a fundamentally good men who was the magistrate of a little city in Roman Portugal (then called Lusitania) for the duration of the sovereignty of Marcus Aurelius. Lucius Valerius Quintius is basically a good man who is left to his own gimmicks because his social peers could not care to aid shoulder the burden of governing.

But suddenly, news is heard of a huge group of Moors that have crossed the Mediterranean and are pillaging Lusitanian towns. In addition, a little group of Christians is playing mayhem with the local citizenry, who suspect them of cannibalism or worse. Quintius fortifies the town and helps to foil a Moorish attack, but he finds the Christians to be a stickier problem.

To begin with, he is mesmerized by Iunia Cantaber, a well-born widow who, as leader of the Christian community, has a lemming drive toward martyrdom. The crises lead to an energizing of the citizenry, who get started to push Quintius further than he wants and leads to a trial, which has a surprising outcome -- that I will not divulge -- and the outcome is that Quintius is forced to take on the Christians. After the trial, he takes the hint and surrenders his office to retire to his villa.

Christianity has suffered a setback in Tarcisis, but the God who strolls in the cool of an evening bides His time. A good men has been befuddled -- but isn't that always what happens in the political arena?

Carvalho's novel falls under the heading of light fiction. It partakes of a tame sarcasm that wears well through it is length. The translation is by the great Gregory Rabassa, whose renderings of Latin-American fiction by Jorge Amado and Gabriel Garcia Marquez have made his name a general of quality.

The value of character....

First things original - _A God Strolling..._ was an engaging read. Previous reviewers have touched on the magnificent development of setting and atmosphere, and I agree that de Carvalho pulls the reader into a colorful and complex representation of the Roman Empire at the precise moment it begun to wane. The book is surely worth reading for this reason alone, particularly for those mesmerized in historical fiction.

But above all, the book is a reputation study; the protagonist Quintius is it is focus. As a reputation study, the book left me wanting a bit more - it's not the study of a strong and inspiring reputation as the other reviews here suggest. The N.Y. Times review above focuses on his "moral code, as well as a provocative meditation on the difficultness of leading a virtuous life in as era of tumultuous change." Quintius is a reluctant magistrate, forced into the seat of power by lazy demagogues who would rather not be burdened with responsibility. And even though Quintius holds steadfastly to his sensing of responsibility as a Roman citizen, his sensing is out of step with the society around him. Rather than drawing strength from his convictions and being a strong ruler, he seems buffeted by the sea of events around him: political rivals, threats from without, the emergent Christian faith within his city, and a strange obsession with a female, Iunia.

In short this is not an inspiring story of the triumph of a moral soul, but a study of the torture of seeing things differently than the masses. If this was the author's desired effect, then the book is an unqualified success. However, I thought a lot of of the tools used in reaching this end were under-developed. Quintius' obsession with Iunia drives the novel near the end, and I never understood the motivation for this kinship (admittedly, I guess neither did Quintius...). And ultimately, I hoped to see a development or substantial alter in the protagonist in the end, and found little.

Readers who get enjoyment from Jose Saramago will likely find de Carvalho interesting. I enjoyed reading the book. I don't recognise if I _liked_ the book. If you crave historical ambiance, or generating sensations of uncomfortableness in yourself, you will take pleasure in reading the book. I'm not sure if you'll _like_ it either, though...

An evocative historical novel

Other reviewers have dealt with the plot and setting of this book. For me, it is important value lies in it is evocation of the details of daily life in a remote area of the Roman empire. The most inspired scene is the one where the Duumvir takes a night stroll along the aquaduct, above the city streets. A possible weakness is the rather self-conscious treatment of the early Christian doctrines and practices. But a very interesting and rewarding read.

Perler Beads- Around for Years

I just not long back purchased these for my granddaughter. My daughter had such outstanding fun with these and made so numerous dissimilar items (Shows you how long they have been around). She was pleasantly occupied for a LONG time. They are a quality product that do require adult supervision when ironing to meld together. You may make magnets, pins, barretts, and the kids may make gifts for others. Can you tell, I just love these?

My kids love love love this toy the best out of all the other arts and crafts toys I gave them for Christmas! Definately their favorite!! Thanks so much to the people who formulated this. They only wish it came with more perler papers(I purchased extra thank heavens). They likewise wanted for it to have more shapes. It would have been nice if it came with a blank piece that is big sufficient to come up with their own shape also. Buy more perler papers parents and guardians because it only comes with one. Worth the price though plus more.

Don't be fooled, all you are buying are links. My grandson and I thought we were buying Mario games and we were so excited. But turns out they are links only, and they took eternally to download, and then I couldn't use them.

Flippin' Awesome!

Super Paper Mario, like the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, was in the first place a Gamecube game that was moved on over to the Wii. Still, it's unquestionably a game we've been waiting for and unquestionably a game worth getting a hold of. Simply put, this is one of the games Wii owners ought to want.

The storyline in Super Paper Mario isn't in truth anything special, but it's surely one to honor for it is fine script and clever writing. An evil magician named Count Bleck plans on taking over the world, and as Mario you'll need to stop him by finding the pieces of the purity heart that'll concede you to do so. In truth, the storyline is in truth actually crazy, but I'd rather not give too much away. It's in truth a genuinely pleasurable story Mario fans will love in the long run.

The game is very dialog heavy but at least it is creative. Much of it is very humorous and will have you laughing rather a bit. But when I say dialog heavy, I'm not kidding. You'll be mashing on the 2 button a lot. It wouldn't be so bad if characters didn't go on to explain such things that were useless.

Super Paper Mario is veritably something noteworthy in terms of it is gameplay. It mixes Platforming and RPG elements. There's still a need to level up and Mario has his set of HP but all the way, this is a platformer. It plays very similar to Super Mario Brothers on the NES. However, a slight problem with this kind of gameplay, is that those who were in truth addicted to side scrolling Mario games and were used to keeping down a button to run will be amazed to learn there is no button to run! It's no huge deal, but if you're sentiment nostalgic (as you probably will playing this game) it's actually something long time Mario fans may have to get applied to, particularly because Mario doesn't move very fast.

During the game you may press the A button and flip the screen from the 2D world to the 3D world any time you want. Most of the time you'll be playing the game in the 2D realm, but there's a great deal to be done in 3D too. It's a requisite to getting past a good deal of of the games puzzles. If you're ever stuck on puzzle just try flipping. It's also used to get past environmental objects. If a pipe is too tall for Mario to jump over, for example, then you may switch the game to the 3D view and plainly walk around it. You can't stay in 3D forever. If you stay in 3D for too long Mario will take damage.

The problem with the gameplay is that the game is far too easy. Most foes are effortlessly dispatched and don't do much harm to you anyway. Even boss battles are of little challenge. The boss fights are fun, at least, requiring you to fight them in interesting ways, but they're still on the easy side. If you're an expert gamer, I don't predict you'll die anytime soon all around your adventure.

Mario likewise isn't alone. He'll be joined by Peach, Luigi and Bowser allround his travels, and each of them has an capacity they may do. Peach may float, Luigi has a high jump and Bowser may spit fire. You may switch among them at any time, and there are moments when you'll genuinely need a sure reputation to do things. However, the game relies to a considerable degree on the mechanic of going from 2D to 3D and only Mario may genuinely do this. Despite that you've got other characters, you'll still play through most of the game as Mario.

Throughout your adventures you'll also gather Pixls. Little fairy like creatures that give Mario and company other abilities he may use. The wii remote works well with this game. As cited you'll hold it like an NES controller and play the game in basically the same style you played the primary Super Mario Brothers. The Wii controls, however, feel a little tacked on. You may point the remote to search for concealed doors or scan enemies. You may likewise shake when you jump off an enemy to get more points. The wii remote doesn't have a huge affect on the gameplay, though.

Visually, of course, the game looks like a late generation Gamecube game. However, the games distinguishable style alone warrants it is beauty. The 2D landscape is far better looking than the 3D landscape, though. The 2D backgrounds are beautiful, and the background environments actually shower a lot of detail. 3D doesn't look as good, altho because it's just not as gorgeous and filled with life. Most of the level designs themselves are also finelooking plain. As far as platforming goes, there's not one thing too intuitively designed either. The levels also aren't filled to the brim with enemies. There's a lot of jumping, but not a lot of obstacles in your way.

The game likewise sounds in truth good. There's no voice acting to speak of, really. Which sucks for a game as text heavy as this, but most gamers who've been gaming for well over a decade in all probability won't care in regards to this, anyway.

On the whole, Super Paper Mario is a must own title for the Wii. It's been ingeniously designed; it's full of humor and has been cleverly written. And to top it all off, it's just a lot of fun to play.

Solid Fun

It's a shame that so few people have Wii's in North America. Otherwise, I would imagine that "Super Paper Mario" would have tons of reviews at this moment. This is an fantastically solid game.

Less "Paper Mario" than "Super Mario", the game returns Mario to his 2-D roots. Gone are turn-based battles, and in their place, good 'ole hoppin' and boppin' fun, like in the old days, but with one clever twist. When your reputation is faced with, say, an inconceivable jump, you may plainly "flip" yourself into three dimensions, the result of which is often the opening of a new path, or the emergence of a concealed pipe, etc. It's a clever twist on the 2-D goodness of the old "SMB" games of the Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

If I had one complaint with the game, it's that it's a bit too easy. With the capacity to level ones character, the challenging distinct features of the initial "SMB" games gets a bit lost (in particular, the reputation will NOT die from falling in a hole, and may sustain multiple hits before running out of heart points, which may be refilled by items, or even concealed mushrooms). But make no fault - while the game is never particularly challenging, it is always fun. The dialog is snappy (the "dating sim" send-up is fabulously humorous, e.g.), the controls are good and responsove (I would have liked to see the nunchuk controller applied a bit, in particular for the 3-D sections, but this is a mild complaint), the graphics are pretty...interesting, and the whole experience is trippy, in a "Katamari" sort of way.

All in all, a solid Wii outing - this is one of those games that makes you happy to own the system.

SUPER MARIO FUN!!

I am a 26 year old recent Wii purchaser (that was an ordeal) and have been out looking for games. I now have:

Wii Sports
Wii Play
Excite Truck
Rayman Raving Rabbids (the reason I purchased the system, my wife was flipping over this when she saw it)
Resident Evil 4
WarioWare Smooth Moves
and now
Super Paper Mario

I applied to play Mario as a kid both on my NES in the late 80's and Super Nintendo back in the early 90's, along with F-Zero and a lot of other games I had. I had a 3DO after that for a while, but then have not gamed for over a decade.

The Wii has marked a triumphantly FUN return to gaming: as above, I am 26 and my wife is 21 and we are both having a large total of fun. As for Mario, I must say that Super Paper Mario, for a former-Super-Mario-World player is just a TOP NOTCH experience.

Getting through the "RPG-style" story in the beginning (a style of gaming which I do not forget seeing friends play on their gameboys) was initially a concern of mine (because I think that stuff is boring), but the sarcasm and self-awareness of what they do is rather funny and sucked me into the game.

The gameplay is very amusing, in particular flipping back and forth amidst 2D and 3D...a new hilarious take on old Mario side-scrolling convention.

This is my personal bestloved Wii game of the list above, because I like fun and it is just sheer fun. All others are amazing (Wii Sports is timeless, Resident Evil is epic and haunting, Excite Truck is EXCITING!, Wario is hilarious, etc.), but this is a big, gratifying and without doubt or question long-lasting game, since we don't play "hard," just casually.

Lunar Mario

With all the hype Nintendo is generating with the upcoming Wii U and the 3DS, it is hard to believe that possibly in 2013 they will stop making games for the Nintendo Wii. Yet, with the influence of motion gaming from Nintendo, it actually influenced the way we played games with the motion of the wrist. Yet, there are so a good deal of games that have been so definitive to showcase with the Wii. The biggest one in my book for adventure is Super Mario Galaxy. With the joy of seeing Mario in space, it in truth changed the perspective on how we play adventure games. But not similar to Sony & Microsoft with platformers, Mario will always be king, not just in gameplay, but also control, and that now with a new lower price for Super Mario Galaxy, it unquestionably is a great time to battle Bowser in space once again.

Super Mario Galaxy, as a percentage of the Nintendo selects series, is unquestionably a great game from start out to finish, as you are thrusted into space to rescue Princess Toadstool a.k.a. Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser, as you not only brace yourself in space to save Peach, but also try and aid Rosalina save her spaceship from the ruined damage. As you thrust yourself in space, you have so some dynamic oppositions to master from a giant-sized spider spitting galactic venom, to Bouldergeist, a villainous enemy that is a deadly ghost that packs a punch when he protects himself with rock armor, and then grows vulgar arms. Graphically, the games looks amazing begin to finish, while the music of the game brings celestial moods all the way to classic Mario themes from past games, to a epic orchestral Bowser showdown. The control of the game is very simple and easy to control Mario through the challenges from emptying trash to get a star, to attempting to defeat foes without suffering harm to get stars.

All in all, Super Mario Galaxy is a fantastic game is worth each penny and unquestionably one of the most defiant games that showed what Mario could actually do on the Nintendo Wii. If you've never played Super Mario Galaxy when it in the first place came out back in 2007, than it frankly is a outstanding time to get this game and watch Mario placed into orbit. I perfectly loved this game when it in the first place came out closely 4 years ago, and you'll love it too. Definitely one little step for a plumber, but one giant leap into gaming.

A main Mario game on Wii? It's so much more than that...

You've in all probability seen how revolutionary Super Mario 64 was on the Nintendo 64. Well, imagine if the game was divided into mini planets, and you see Mario soaring through the air as he was launched into the air. That, my friends, is Mario Galaxy.

The game starts out with Mario roaming through a gorgeously elaborate Mushroom Kingdom as he runs to Peach's Castle...for cake. But then, guess what? Not only does Bowser kidnap Peach again. He kidnaps Peach in a very epic cutscene! Unfortunately for Mario, a Magikoopa sends him flying into the galaxy, knocking him out.

Now, the main game is playing through very huge and graphical 3D worlds bouncing on Goombas, gathering coins, and all kinds of other stuff. But, like Super Mario 64, you ought to gather Stars. Collect sufficient Stars to be capable to play in another world, or perhaps have Mario tussle with Bowser. If you were to play the game, you'll observe that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is much, much deeper and more fun than I am describing it.

The music is not one thing like I've ever heard in a Mario game. I mean, seriously. Once I played the game until after I beat the introductory Bowser boss, I was thinking "Oh, my god. These tracks are from a MARIO game??". The music likewise breathes air into the spacey atmosphere in the game.

The one major complaint I have with this game is that the 2-Player mode is stupid. There's almost not one thing the second player may do to help the primary player play through the game. Sure, he/she may gather Star Bits, launch them at enemies, and fling those...rubber..trees at enemies. But that's gorgeous much it. The second player doesn't even have his/her own reputation (Thanks, Mario Galaxy 2).

But other than the 2-Player mode, the game is amazing. It is one of the best Wii games you may buy.

Oh, and Spoiler Alert: Luigi is playable after you gather all 121 Stars, in case you didn't know.

Super Mario 64 to the tenth power

I've played Super Mario since I got my primary SNES for my ninth birthday and he's been, more or less, a major portion of my experiences playing video games. Whether it was Super Mario World, or Super Mario All-stars or even Super Mario RPG (I am an RPG fanatic), Super Mario was and still is the SNES for me.

But I must confess, I never grew up with the N64 or the GameCube so perchance my credendtials aren't as good as any individual who has played the Mario games I haven't on the GBA or the GameCube. I only ever got to play Super Mario 64 with my reletives. I downloaded Super Mario 64 on Virtual Console and, while it's still fun, it just doesn't hold my attention for long. I doubt I'll ever beat it.

All that aside, I hope you would still trust my judgement when I say this is the funnest and greatest 3D platformer I've ever played and it held my attention until I got all 120 stars, unlocked Luigi, and got 100 more as him.

This game is gorgeous and plays like a dream. I candidly couldn't have imagined having so much fun shaking and pointing the Wii Remote but this game incorperates it in such a way that pointing and shaking go beyond mere novelty and actually make the game even stronger. Collecting star bits with the star cursor and then aiming at foes while controlling Mario with the Nunchuck is a minor task in multi-tasking that is rewarding and stimulating. Mario himself plays spectacularly with all his classic Super Mario 64 acrobatic moves intact. His punch-punch-kick combo has been substituted with a simple spin-punch attack that feels less redundant and far more suitable to attacking in multiple directions. Occasionally, Mario will have to pull off a lot of tricky wall-jumping moves that feel remindful of wall-jumping in Mega Man X. The camra always situates itself just right for these segments and never hinders you once. The camra moves itself closely always to just where you need it when you need it. Only a few times are you not capable to move it manually the way you want and that, rather frankly, is the only complaint I could come up with.

Now let's talk when it comes to level design. My goodness is it finelooking and mind-bending! Mario will perpetually defy gravity and he is capable to run right side up and upside down depending on which side of a heveanly body you are on. You'll find yourself moving your head from side to side attempting to reorient yourself on instinct. This game takes lots of hand-eye coordination to play and will strength you to hone your attainments and senses. This ulimately makes conquering a level and getting that last star-piece all the more fulfilling. Levels may vary from lush, green worlds alive with life to arrid deserts to all your classic platforming cliches, including lava levels and ice levels; even the Super Mario World ghost houses make a return. Some worlds might be made totally out of feed or toys. Some worlds are made of geometric patterns that bend the mind and test your vertigo further. My bestloved levels are the ones that look like tropical paradises. If heaven exists, that's what I imagine it looks like.

Everything from gameplay to music to graphics and level design only further cement Mario's place in the video gaming world as the definitive platforming reputation who will never fade away and carry on to attract fans young and old, or in my case, estranged. The good folks at Nintendo ought to be proud of themselves. This is the kind of game you saw in your dreams when you tried imagine how much better gaming could get when you were younger. If you get any game for the Wii, let it be this.
