A little small, but still good

I just purchased these on the 20th and received them today, the 22nd, so this company is super fast. My son had a lot of fun putting these up for his birthday party. I wasn't sure with regards to these when I ordered them because there are no measurements, so I thought I would include some.

My 5-year-old son is in sheer heaven!!! He has been begging for a Mario room forever. We just can't seem to find any Super Mario Bros. borders, bedding, etc. anywhere. I just happened upon these on Amazon and thought I would undertake them out. While they only show 10 or so wall stickers in the photo, there are in truth 48! Boy does my son have a Mario room now. It is amazing. We painted the upper half of the room a bright sky blue and made the lower half of the wall grass green (all colors were matched from Mario Sunshine booklet). The green color undulates all over the wall making hills and valleys. I painted a heap of white clouds in the sky. The quality of the stickers seems very nice (although time will tell) and they reposition well. As long as it lasts through the Mario stage, I'm happy!!!

As far as educational, my son has expended hours imagining these creatures coming to life. He has adventures and battles and all sorts of fun in his room.

Good quality and fun decor

I purchased these for my son's 11th birthday party. He loved them. They are good quality and the adhesive is strong sufficient to keep them on the wall yet they don't peel off paint exceptionally if you want to move them around.

A great Paper Mario game out there on it is own

I have always been a fan of the "Paper Mario" franchise. They all feature a very distinctive direction for a beloved character, systematically delivering the same miraculous top-tier quality as the rest of Mario's mainstay adventures. Super Paper Mario proceeds in the distinguishable vein of the basi two Paper Mario (and even Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars on the SNES, which is a clear inspiration for the whole Paper Mario series in general) while injecting a good deal of radical new directions of it is own, branching off rather a bit in the process.

First of all, this is the least RPG game in the whole Paper Mario series. Gone are the dynamic, theater turn-based battles of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and in are the jump-on-an-enemy-and-watch-him-go-poof of the classic Super Mario Bros. games. Heck, gone are most RPG elements period! The only RPG anything in this game are items, and the fact that after a sure amount of "XP" points, your characters level up and gain more health, more harm in attacks, etc. That's it. No, this is more like a classic Mario side-scrolling platformer with the Paper motif. It is principally 2-D except for one talent addition to the game's formula, and a definitive game changer, in that Mario may manipulate the reality around him and go from 2-D perspective into 3-D. What is an impenetrable wall in 2-D becomes a mere pole in 3-D that you may without apparent effort side-step. The puzzlelike quality of getting from point A to point B using the 3-D mechanic is brilliant, and the puzzles were rather magnificent all around the entire game. I was impressed. If you don't find joy in it, you have no soul.

The only downside to 3-D is that the graphics become downright sparse and ugly in 3-D. In 2-D, however, the graphics are in particular stylish and eye catching. The artistic direction in this game is phenomenal. World 3 is done altogether using 8-bit sprites as a throwback to the classic NES system. Places like this are so fun to adventure through.

This time around, you get to play as Mario, obviously, but also Bowser, Peach, and Luigi become members of your party that you may switch to on the fly. Each also has their own distinctive capacity you will need to continue. Unfortunately, only Mario may switch to 3-D, and because that is such an necessary capacity to make it through most areas, you end up using Mario exclusively for most of the time, lest you want to keep switching and hence chop up the pacing. It's too bad, because the other characters are a blast to play as, but it becomes impractical to constantly keep switching to Mario to get past one portion and then switch back. For one who always wanted to play as Bowser as a main character, that is my only complaint in terms of reputation set-up (Then again, there's always the splendid Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story ). You likewise get little fairy creatures that follow you called Pixls who fundamentally give you further and added powers that Mario & Co. will need to advance through a good deal of puzzles. These range from a bomb to blow away sure blocks, to a cowboy Pixl called "Slim" who makes Mario paper thin to squeeze through super skinny pathways in the walls (how talent is that, seriously?). The Pixls are a nice added wrinkle to the already engaging puzzles.

Like the other entries in the Paper series, and not similar to any other Mario game outside of that, Super Paper Mario genuinely attempts to spun a yarn in it is narrative. Is it a groundbreaking, unbelievable story worth buying the game alone for? No, but it is beauteous cute, catchy, and achieves the goal it is supposed to. I enjoyed it, personally. One aspect that you will either love or hate with the story is that it makes the game exceedingly wordy. I cannot stress that enough. You will read a novel's worth, and then some, in dialog from this game. That didn't bother me (as you may see by my review, I too am wordy), and I rather enjoyed the dialog myself. In fact, the characters and their words may be fabulously hilarious in a tongue-in-cheek way. Heck, one of the main bad guys is modeled after the boss Lumbergh from Office Space. Another boss is the hilarious embodiment of all things forum-dwelling, nature photographing, sci-fi watching, video gaming, comic collecting, jaded complaining nerd. Awesome. Even my wife, who initially felt that this was a bit too much of a "kiddy" game from the graphics and music, thought the characters were very cute and in the long run changed her mind with regards to SPM because of it is undeniable charm.

It's not all perfective though, I must point out. I must say that I actually enjoyed Super Paper Mario on it is own merit. However, in the context of the other Paper Mario games, I have to say I like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door a lot more, as well as the primary Paper Mario. I miss the dynamic turn-based battles and the audience that got involved in them. I miss the decidedly much more epic storyline and dynamic characters in 1,000 year door. I miss the distinguishable characters like Admiral Bobbery the Bob-omb, Yoshi, and Koops that join you on your quest. Heck, I miss the MARIO parts in SPM. For a heap of odd reason, the reputation design and even a lot of of the "dimensions" you visit made me feel like this didn't in truth belong in Mario "canon" as most characters are not in any way affiliated to Mario games. 1,000 door was full of classic Mario constituents like koopas, bob-ombs, goombas, heck, even the piantas from Super Mario Sunshine are there. In contrast, Super Paper Mario has closely no recognizable Mario elements, and as a result, felt weirdly alien to me. AND, most recognizable characters like Bowser's Koopa army, Goombas, etc, make brief appearances at that! I know Mario & the gang are supposed to be in other dimensions, but still... it felt strange. Almost through the whole game, the only characters I was comfortable with totally was Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Bowser. That's it. Gone are goombas, koopas, bob-ombs, etc, in are bizarre, abstract oppositions that look like weird squiggly lines and oversimplified polygonal shapes. Weird. Part of the Paper Mario series' strength was how it charmingly rendered intimate things from Mario's universe in that amazing Children's pop-up book motif. When so a heap of of those things are gone, it's sort of off-putting at times. To put it simply, Super Mario Mario suffers a bit from Doki Doki Mario syndrome (aka the US version of "Super Mario Bros. 2." The real No. 2 game was deemed too difficult for the US, so Nintendo of America took a altogether unrelated Japanese game called "Doki Doki Panic" and substituted Mario and the gang for playable characters and voila! Doki Doki Mario was born. Bizarre, I know).

I would summarize Super Paper Mario like this: An splendid game, but very strange equated to all other Mario games. It feels like an amazing black sheep; A altogether dissimilar take that feels excitedly adventurous and a wee too liberal at the same time. Don't get me wrong, I love SPM. I may have preferent Thousand-Year Door or the primary as Paper Mario games, BUT Super Paper Mario makes so a lot of radical steps conceptually that it's hardly reasonable to consider it in context of the others, as I have pointed out. In it is own genre-busting world, it is amazing. Where else does a star-man turn Mario into a hulking 8-bit NES version of himself to stomp and demolish everything in his path? Where else do you get an item that makes a zombie mushroom follow you around and help you, or call a miniature army of NES versions of the reputation to mimic your each move and go kamikaze? Moments like this are too cool. This game oozes it is own quirky charm, and it is all the better for it. Would I commend it? Absolutely! However, I would give you the counsel of playing this with the attitude of it being a stand-alone adventure, because taking it in with the other Paper Mario series in mind might skew your expected values of what is to come. Keep that in mind. Super Paper Mario is one of thee definitive Wii games to get for your library, just be grateful for it for what it genuinely is! Now that it is at such a reasonable price, this is an even sweeter deal. Buy it, cuddle it, and receive pleasure from it is undeniable, enchanting charm.

Fun Mario Game

Super Paper Mario was a fun twist of the classic Mario series. It took a while to beat since there are so a great deal of levels. I felt I was running around attempting to find stuff and having to backtrack a lot, the further I got into the game. I at long last had to get online and find a walk-through because I would just get stuck. There are so a heap of things Mario may do in this game and so galore things to look for, it will unquestionably keep you busy!

Pros: Enjoy playing as other characters. Different characters have dissimilar powers so that was fun. Reminded me of classic NES Super Mario Bros 2! (My bestloved of the series.)
Takes a long time to play.
Makes you think. It's not a game you may beat in a couple of hours.

Cons: I personally like to finish a level and move on to the next. In this game you have to hunt for the next heart to go to the next level. It's a little time consuming and got old after the introductory couple. But that's just my personal opinion. I think numerous people will get enjoyment from that aspect of the game.
There are so some worlds to keep straight! There is not a universal map to show all of them at the same time...you have to do not forget what floor to get on to go to a sure place. It actually started to run together!

I had the most unmanageable time attempting to find this game, but now you get buy it for $20 as a classic. You will get your money's worth if you are looking for a game with a bit of challenge.

A Very Fun Game

I had this game a few years ago but got rid of it (along with the Wii - long story). I decisive to get it again and have had fun playing. It may be addictive, depending on what kind of games you like.

It has a good bit of replay value. The game doesn't have to be over once you've beaten it. There are further and added challenges you may not finish before finishing the game and other collectables to find. Overall, I've genuinely enjoyed this game.

A Good Buy, but only if your kid is a real Mario fanatic.

I ordered these not so long ago to serve as stocking stuffers for my son. He had gotten a little Mario figure from the local K-Mart for $5 and it is fundamentally one of the same ones in this set, side by side I see no difference. He utterly loves his little mario, even altho it basically does... Nothing. So I justified the [...] with shipping this set is.

Kids and Fans of the Mario Universe will Love Them

I am a parent of three little children who love Mario and everything to do with Mario. My sons eighth birthday was coming up and he wanted galore Mario toys to play with when he wasn't playing Mario in a good deal of video game. I saw these on Amazon they looked genuinely neat because they contained more than just the normal few characters you always see. The only thing I was worried regarding was the quality and size, they were so cheap that I actually didn't recognise what to expect, but when they showed up I had a sentiment that all my kids were gonna love them, and I was right. Since my son opened them up, I think at least one of my children has been playing with them each waking hour for the past week, and so far none of them have broken and with my kids that's rally saying something. Now two inches may sound beauteous little but my kids seem to think they are the perfective size for playing and pretending. The only problem my kid seem to have is, when we're gonna get some more and sharing the one's we do have. I have to say having grown up with Mario myself these little guys are pretty cool and I'm glad my kids are gathering them. Anyway great product, outstanding price, very satisfied, and the kids are happy so I'm happy.

Great DVD!

I got this for my 2 boys and they LOVE it!! Yoshi is their favored and this was the only Mario Bros. movie I could find with him in it. They couldn't be happier, and I can't even count how numerous times they have watched it so far!!!

I have 6 y/o twin Grandsons who utterly love everything Mario! When I am busy, in particular getting dressed for church on sunday mornings, they watch Mario and I am not constantly interrupted by them. They rush to get dressed for church without argument so they may finish watching. They know all the players, songs and tell me what is going to occur next since they have seen it so a heap of times. They are safe for them to watch with no bad language, etc. Love them.

A worthy sequel to one of the best N64 games

I'm a 37-year-old husband and father; in all probability not the game's biggest target demographic, but more adults play these games than you may think!

I played (and completed) the magnificent Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64 a few years ago, along with my young son. It was very close to a perfective game: visually spectacular, original, engaging, moderately challenging, and filled with goofy cut scenes. The episode-based play worked utterly to keep both of us from getting bored or frustrated; it was out of the question to go too far down a dead end, or "lose" the game.

I'm happy to say that this sequel is worthy of the original. There is again an elaborate plot and back-story, there are more engaging Mushroom Kingdom characters, and lots more great paper effects. The papery world may get peeled back like Post-It note, torn like a Kleenex, folded like origami, and spring out like the pictures in a pop-up book. The characters have more to say (sometimes more than you want them to say!) The game's designers remunerated a outstanding deal of attention to user interface and playability, and it in truth shows.

The Paper Mario games are not terribly difficult. That's a good thing, exceptionally if the game-players in your household are young or less experienced. If you're an adult and at all good at figuring out strategy-based battles, you may seldom lose a fight. This may make the game seem to easy, but in that case there are still a great deal of ridiculous cut scenes, animations, mini-games, and side quests to keep you entertained.

This is also the kind of video game that is gratifying to watch somebody else play: the finelooking color palettes, animations, and mystery objects are sufficient to occupy two peoples' attention, so try syndication off with your kids and showing off your stylin' moves (and don't bogart that joystick!)

The basi Paper Mario game had a few drawbacks. The huge number of battles could once in a while become tedious. This game improves on the original in giving you an audience to distract you and cheer for you for the duration of fights. The menu of available moves, badges, and items is even more elaborate than in the original, so you may focus on clever strategies. In fact, you have to pay at least a great deal of attention to careful use of your party members and special attacks: galore oppositions are impervious to all ordinary attacks, and will require cleverness to beat, just as a good deal of of the worlds incorporate areas that will only open to you after you've gained further and added particular abilities.

One last comment: these games are short. I think I finished the original one in with regards to twenty hours of play, and I did not rush. Twenty hours may sound like a lot, but not when equated to a game like Donkey Kong 64, which might take a player ten times longer. If you are a hardcore gamer, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you have a life outside of video games, and don't have a lot of free time to spare, this is the game for you. You might find yourself, like me, wishing at the end that there were more mysteries to uncover and more foolish mini-games to play. I have not finished this new Paper Mario, but I've found most of the stars, so it will probably not be long. I'm looking forward to what I suppose will be a spectacular ending!

P.S.: Addendum to the above, added after posting the original.

I may be mis-remembering how long it took me to finish the basi Paper Mario for the N64; it may have been more like 40 or 50 hours; still, equated to a good deal of of the more elaborate platformers, it was a comparatively short game. In any event, this game is proving to a bit longer than that.

I've gotten past the thousand-year door, but decisive to backtrack before confronting the final bosses so I could go rack up a good deal of further and added levels, find all the shine sprites and boost my party members' levels to maximum, solve "troubles," and in general extend the playing experience. In other words, I'm not in a hurry for the game to be over.

I've also decisive I won't want to finish the game until I've beaten... (chilling music)... the Pit of 100 Trials. The Pit is a sadistic device designed specially to appeal to compulsive perfectionists like me. It is fundamentally a one-way sequence of battle rooms. To finish, you ought to win successive battles of increasing difficulty. Every tenth room holds a treasure and the probability to bail out and return to the start. There is occasionally the prospect to skip in front a few levels or buy galore items, but for the most percentage you just have to slog through; there are no save blocks available along the way, and if you give up, you will have to start out again from the beginning.

While you begin out with low-level Goombas, by the time you reach the 80s you will be confronting black steel chain chomps and magical creatures who carry a good deal of special abilities and items. You'll find yourself and your collaborator paralyzed, confused, or frozen, and then attacked multiple times by creatures who may do ten or twenty points of harm with a single blow. By the time you reach the 90s, your oppositions will make the boss fights to date look easy. This challenge is in here just for those who, like me, want the fights to be a little bit harder, calling for a little more careful scheme and planning. But taking on the Pit is exclusively optional, so as not to demolish the fun of those who don't take pleasure in the tougher fights. Yesterday I gave out at level 93, but I will prevail!

A Fair Review

Let me start out off saying that this is my firstborn review. Also this is a review in regards to the game: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. That being said, this is not a biased opinion from one unrelated game to another (Cough-KarlMarxEmilioZapata-Cough).

I have played the original Paper Mario for the N64 so I will start out off with a heap of standard divergences of the two games. Then I will get to the Thousand Year Door review itself.

-- Differences for PM to PM:TYD --
-Controls-
A major change, but not like you think. In the primary game, there would be a great deal of moves that would have you wearing your thumbs and fingers just attempting to get through a boss battle. This happened because a lot of particular moves called for repeatedly hitting the 'A' button over and over again. This got old fast. Other controls, like jumping and hammering are fundamentally the same.
In the new game, there is almost none of that repeatedly tapping a button. There are a good deal of cases where you have to tap the 'R' button a few times, but it's so much posing no difficulty to do than the original. Holding down the 'A' button has substituted the constantly hitting of the poor 'A'. Overall the controls have primarily improved.
-Graphics-
A minor change. The graphics on the GC version are crisper and cleaner than the 64, but not much else has changed. I am fine with this as it commonly means that it is a larger game, which in this case is true. it took me around 50 hours to get through the game attempting to do everything. This is a lot of time for somebody who goes to college. (Gasp! I go to college, I'm 20 years old, and I like this game! I gasp again and perhaps a third time. Gasp!! Gasp!!!)
-Battles-
In the GC version you get an audience to please. At first, I thought that this would be stupid and more for atmosphere than anything else. Boy, was I wrong. If the audience is unhappy with you, they may get started rooting for the enemy. Which that means they will begin throwing rocks and rubbish at you in an try to hurt you or break your concentration. If the audience likes you the will throw good items at you and may even drop sandbags on the enemy. Trying to get the favor of the audience and stopping any body from throwing rocks at you is like a mini-battle in the actual battle. Always keep an eye on the audience.

Now, the review of the game itself.

Basically, this follows the old Mario Bros. storyline. Princess Peach calls for help, gets kidnapped, Mario comes and saves the day. Except, Bowser didn't do it. In each chapter you play principally as Mario, but have a little time playing as Peach(like PM64) and Bowser. The Bowser levels are great and any true Mario fan will have a blast playing them. Even though the basic plot has been done time after time, Nintendo does a outstanding occupation putting little tweaks here and there that make it fresh and enjoyable.
-Graphics- 4/5
There will be galore out there that hate these graphics, but you have to remember: it's called PAPER Mario. Everything has to use a paper like quality. There is the occasional thing that I think could have been done a tad better, like when you come to a 'new' area it would open like a pop-up book, but that's just wishing. Like I said earlier, I would gladly sacrifice graphics for a longer game.
-Gameplay- 5/5
The controls are outstanding and the battles are awesome. If you forgot what I said in regards to those two, check above for a more detail. The badges and party scheme has remained comparatively unchanged. That's fine, they worked well to get started with. Everything else has improved.
-Sound- 4/5
The music is vibrant, peculiarly on a good stereo system. There is so a lot of little background, side music stuff that you'll never listen without a good stereo. You may play witout them without apparent effort enough, but it just sounds so... crisp. The only reason I gave this a 4/5 was because of the sound effects. Some of them may get a little cheesy, but it actually boils down to whether love them or hate them. The music is the shining star here, though. Very unforgettable classic gaming tempos.

I love this game, but I am not everyone so I won't say that you must buy it. You shouldn't just let this game pass you by either. I suggest renting it, see if it is your cup of tea, then buy it. If you occur to be me, though, I suggest buying it.

You have to remember, it's an RPG...

If you're looking for a new Mario 64, this is NOT the game for you. Of course, the fact that it features the world's most famous plumber has seemed to mislead a good deal of to think you're going to get the same "action" as a Mario platform game. Let me make this clear early on: You're NOT.

This game is an RPG. It may be slow at times, with much dialogue. However, if you are sincerely engrossed in the story (which genuinely just depends on if you're mesmerized in it and aren't only out for action) this game WILL NOT bore you. Honestly, I don't believe this is a game for your intermediate 7 year-old. Perhaps it was marketed as one, but it surely requires a lot more thought than Mario 64, for example.

The gameplay itself is splendid though. The battles are fabulously innovative, and Intelligent has taken the "paper" aspect to the next level. It's not ONLY that Mario is in a flat world now. The interactions and mysteries and thought patterns of playing a "flat" game have mainly evolved since the basi Paper Mario. This isn't to say that the game rides on this "paper concept," but it surely helps make Paper Mario one of the most original Nintendo titles (even with respect to it's
predecessor)

The game does follow the basic "mission style" format, but as you get further into it you do not have to stick to the linear style. There are sufficient badges and "tattles" and recipes and items to gather to REALLY keep you busy if that's what you're looking for.

In closing, if you buy this game, you MUST do not forget it's an RPG. It's an fantastically firstborn and deep RPG, but IT IS AN RPG! It shouldn't be judged on any other basis. You haven't played anything like it before--even if you played the N64 Paper Mario.

A worthy sequel to one of the best N64 games

I'm a 37-year-old husband and father; in all likelihood not the game's biggest target demographic, but more adults play these games than you may think!

I played (and completed) the magnificent Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64 a few years ago, along with my young son. It was very close to a perfective game: visually spectacular, original, engaging, moderately challenging, and filled with goofy cut scenes. The episode-based play worked perfectly to keep both of us from getting bored or frustrated; it was totally unlikely to go too far down a dead end, or "lose" the game.

I'm happy to say that this sequel is worthy of the original. There is again an elaborate plot and back-story, there are more engaging Mushroom Kingdom characters, and a large total more outstanding paper effects. The papery world may get peeled back like Post-It note, torn like a Kleenex, folded like origami, and spring out like the pictures in a pop-up book. The characters have more to say (sometimes more than you want them to say!) The game's designers salaried a great deal of attention to user interface and playability, and it in truth shows.

The Paper Mario games are not terribly difficult. That's a good thing, particularly if the game-players in your household are young or less experienced. If you're an adult and at all good at figuring out strategy-based battles, you may seldom lose a fight. This may make the game seem to easy, but in that case there are still a great deal of absurd cut scenes, animations, mini-games, and side quests to keep you entertained.

This is also the kind of video game that is pleasurable to watch someone else play: the beauteous color palettes, animations, and mystery objects are sufficient to occupy two peoples' attention, so undertake marketing off with your kids and showing off your stylin' moves (and don't bogart that joystick!)

The introductory Paper Mario game had a few drawbacks. The huge number of battles could on occasion become tedious. This game improves on the basi in giving you an audience to distract you and cheer for you for the duration of fights. The menu of available moves, badges, and items is even more elaborate than in the original, so you may focus on clever strategies. In fact, you have to pay at least a lot of attention to careful use of your party members and special attacks: a great deal of oppositions are impervious to all general attacks, and will require cleverness to beat, just as a lot of of the worlds integrate areas that will only open to you after you've gained further and added particular abilities.

One last comment: these games are short. I think I finished the initial one in when it comes to twenty hours of play, and I did not rush. Twenty hours may sound like a lot, but not when equated to a game like Donkey Kong 64, which might take a player ten times longer. If you are a hardcore gamer, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you have a life outside of video games, and don't have a lot of free time to spare, this is the game for you. You might find yourself, like me, wishing at the end that there were more mysteries to uncover and more absurd mini-games to play. I have not finished this new Paper Mario, but I've found most of the stars, so it will in all likelihood not be long. I'm looking forward to what I suppose will be a spectacular ending!

P.S.: Addendum to the above, added after posting the original.

I may be mis-remembering how long it took me to finish the basi Paper Mario for the N64; it may have been more like 40 or 50 hours; still, equated to a good deal of of the more elaborated platformers, it was a comparatively short game. In any event, this game is proving to a bit longer than that.

I've gotten past the thousand-year door, but decisive to backtrack before confronting the final bosses so I could go rack up some further and added levels, find all the shine sprites and boost my party members' levels to maximum, solve "troubles," and in general extend the playing experience. In other words, I'm not in a hurry for the game to be over.

I've likewise decisive I won't want to finish the game until I've beaten... (chilling music)... the Pit of 100 Trials. The Pit is a sadistic device designed particularly to appeal to compulsive perfectionists like me. It is fundamentally a one-way sequence of battle rooms. To finish, you ought to win successive battles of increasing difficulty. Every tenth room holds a treasure and the prospect to bail out and return to the start. There is now and again the chance to skip in front a few levels or buy a good deal of items, but for the most share you just have to slog through; there are no save blocks available along the way, and if you give up, you will have to begin again from the beginning.

While you commence out with low-level Goombas, by the time you reach the 80s you will be confronting black steel chain chomps and magical creatures who carry some special abilities and items. You'll find yourself and your collaborator paralyzed, confused, or frozen, and then attacked multiple times by creatures who may do ten or twenty points of harm with a single blow. By the time you reach the 90s, your oppositions will make the boss fights to date look easy. Also, you can't effortlessly pump up your experience by bailing out and restarting the series; completing a battle you've already won will only give you a single star point.

This challenge is in here just for those who, like me, want the fights to be a little bit harder, requiring a little more careful system and planning. But taking on the Pit is wholly optional, so as not to destruct the fun of those who don't get enjoyment from the tougher fights. Yesterday I gave out at level 93, but I will prevail!

A Fair Review

Let me start out off saying that this is my initial review. Also this is a review regarding the game: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. That being said, this is not a biased opinion from one unrelated game to another (Cough-KarlMarxEmilioZapata-Cough).

I have played the primary Paper Mario for the N64 so I will begin off with a heap of usual deviations of the two games. Then I will get to the Thousand Year Door review itself.

-- Differences for PM to PM:TYD --
-Controls-
A major change, but not like you think. In the original game, there would be galore moves that would have you wearing your thumbs and fingers just attempting to get through a boss battle. This happened because a lot of particular moves called for repeatedly hitting the 'A' button over and over again. This got old fast. Other controls, like jumping and hammering are basically the same.
In the new game, there is almost none of that repeatedly tapping a button. There are a great deal of cases where you have to tap the 'R' button a few times, but it's so much more comfortable to do than the original. Holding down the 'A' button has substituted the perpetually hitting of the poor 'A'. Overall the controls have principally improved.
-Graphics-
A minor change. The graphics on the GC version are crisper and cleaner than the 64, but not much else has changed. I am fine with this as it ordinarily means that it is a more prominent game, which in this case is true. it took me around 50 hours to get through the game attempting to do everything. This is a lot of time for someone who goes to college. (Gasp! I go to college, I'm 20 years old, and I like this game! I gasp again and perchance a third time. Gasp!! Gasp!!!)
-Battles-
In the GC version you get an audience to please. At first, I thought that this would be stupid and more for atmosphere than anything else. Boy, was I wrong. If the audience is unhappy with you, they may commence rooting for the enemy. Which that means they will begin throwing rocks and rubbish at you in an undertake to injure you or break your concentration. If the audience likes you the will throw good items at you and may even drop sandbags on the enemy. Trying to get the favor of the audience and stopping any body from throwing rocks at you is like a mini-battle in the actual battle. Always keep an eye on the audience.

Basically, this follows the old Mario Bros. storyline. Princess Peach calls for help, gets kidnapped, Mario comes and saves the day. Except, Bowser didn't do it. In each chapter you play mainly as Mario, but have a little time playing as Peach(like PM64) and Bowser. The Bowser levels are great and any true Mario fan will have a blast playing them. Even even though the basic plot has been done time after time, Nintendo does a great occupation putting little tweaks here and there that make it fresh and enjoyable.
-Graphics- 4/5
There will be a heap of out there that hate these graphics, but you have to remember: it's called PAPER Mario. Everything has to use a paper like quality. There is the occasional thing that I think could have been done a tad better, like when you come to a 'new' area it would open like a pop-up book, but that's just wishing. Like I said earlier, I would gladly sacrifice graphics for a longer game.
-Gameplay- 5/5
The controls are outstanding and the battles are awesome. If you forgot what I said regarding those two, check above for a more detail. The badges and party system has remained comparatively unchanged. That's fine, they worked well to begin with. Everything else has improved.
-Sound- 4/5
The music is vibrant, exceptionally on a good stereo system. There is so a lot of little background, side music stuff that you'll never listen without a good stereo. You may play witout them effortlessly enough, but it just sounds so... crisp. The only reason I gave this a 4/5 was because of the sound effects. Some of them may get a little cheesy, but it in truth boils down to whether love them or hate them. The music is the shining star here, though. Very unforgettable classic gaming tempos.
-Overall- 5/5
I love this game, but I am not everyone so I won't say that you will have to buy it. You shouldn't just let this game pass you by either. I suggest renting it, see if it is your cup of tea, then buy it. If you occur to be me, though, I suggest buying it.

I hope my review does this game justice.

About 200 pages too long

It in truth confuses me that Prima seems to need so galore pages to cover a game these days. Point in case: 336 pages for a game (Super Mario) that has incisively 120 necessary objectives. I mean, geez, I have had text books that were shorter. Let's see . . . thats closely 3 pages for each star you need to collect. To be sure, this game has the same number of stars as Super Mario Sunshine (Game Cube) had shines, and the book Nintendo Power made for that game only necessitated a little over 100 pages to get you there. Don't get me wrong, if this were an RPG or galore other game with dozens of sidequest and 40+ hours of gametime, I would suppose a thick guide for it. Games like this, though, don't need that much explaining.

I think percentage of the exuberant length is that Prima keeps chosing to put closely everything into words rather of featuring more diagrams and screenshots that actually show players what to do. When is Prima going to get it that gamers like maps and illustrations, not having to read three pages to see how to get one thing. In a heap of cases, they do provide a diagram, and yet still persist to ramble needlessly through half a page explaining the very same situation. This was also a problem with their guide for Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS). It too is 336 pages, yet the game has no more than 8 dungeons (haven't finished this one yet, and don't like to look at the guide unless I perfectly have to). The only conclusion I may come up with is that Prima is just bulking up their books to manufacture a reason to raise the price.

On top of being long, this book is likewise laid out very sloppy. There are no clean breaks amidst sections on dissimilar worlds. If one world ends three-quarters of the way down a page, the next one starts there, even if there is only one line and a hyphen to the next page. I'm not sure if the $30 deluxe version of the book improves on this or not, but I would hope for the hefty price tag that it does. This is not to mention the fact that this queer guide features white text on a closely black background. Talk when it comes to retina burning. Still, the outerspace background pattern does look pretty nifty, so I'm not going to hold it versus them in my score.

On a more positive note, the writer has included some finelooking interesting Mario-related trivia sidebars throughout. Most of this is, of course, purposed at younger gamers who may be new to the Mario universe. Still, though, there are a few bits that even the most experienced gamers probably don't recognise yet either. For all that is missing out in this book, I think this element is one of the things that Prima genuinely did right.

All in all, I am giving this guide 2 stars plus one (for exclusiveness). This is not, though, because it is that good. It's merely just the only one there is. It's in truth a shame that Future Publishing has decisive to neglect to the player's guide segment of Nintendo Power since acquiring their licenses from the huge N. Their guides were not only more detailed, but didn't require 300+ pages to explain it all.

So in summary: this guide is not terrible, but it does leave a lot to be desired in terms of overall presentation.

A Handy Guide... But Very Exhaustive

It's become mutual place now to say that a Prima Guide is good, but exhaustive. The walkthroughs are commonly elaborated and good, but they are to a great extent disorganized and oftentimes require a lot of page flipping. The same thing is unfeigned of the Super Mario Galaxy guide. It's a outstanding guide to help you through the game, and will aid you find all 120 stars, but the walkthrough is so disorganized and exhaustive you'll find yourself reading whole segmentations before resuming play.

It genuinely gets you going on all the basics. Showing you all the controls and showing you the basic structure of the game's hub. It also tells you with regards to the Galaxies and how to find all the concealed ones as well. Another outstanding aspect regarding the guide is that you may find most of the data in the table of contents (you'll be flipping there often) for each episode. There are likewise galore nice trivia call outs and notes for those who just want to know more regarding Mario.

Again, however, while this walkthrough is very well done it just doesn't get to the point. It spends a lot of time narrating the story and saying things like this:

"As soon as Mario finds all three bunnnies, a little castle appears on the planetoid. When Mario approaches, he spots a young woman dressed in cosmic blue, a color that exists only when the sun creeps out from behind the clouds. Her name is Rosalina, a she pledges to help Mario find Princess Peach. It seems that not only has Bowser stolen the princess, but he might be the culprit behind the thievery of special stars that aid power Rosalina's Comet Observatory."

That's just one paragragh from the beginning. This is fine and dandy but it gives no instruction. This tells me story but not what I'm supposed to do next. The narration goes on for paragraphs upon paragraphs upon paragraphs with only a sentence or two of actual guideance thrown in. I'm a good sport when it comes to spoilers. But it would be nice if a walkthrough were competent to get to the point.

The good news is that the screen shots and maps are excellent. You'll have to flip back to the maps a lot, though. Each section for each part of the walkthrough is rather long.

It's a helpful guide, but very exhaustive and will require a lot of page flipping. It spends a lot of time explaining what the game ought to be showing me. If you need help with the game, however, by all means, pick up this guide.

Nice elaborate guide, but causes flipping

Some reviews have complained regarding the massive size of this guide. This doesn't bother me that much, as I'd prefer to have more elaborate guides than those that omit steps. I liked the screenshots and art in this guide, but it isn't perfect.

It does need better separation amid galaxies as stated in a another review. Also, you'll have to flip back and forth in the guide, specially if you are attempting to gather each star. Besides the need to be more linear though, I don't have any major complaints with this guide.
